Militias jeered as the British retreated from Basra
It is emerging that the British occupation of Basra ended with a retreat that was negotiated with the Shia militia leaders in the area. They allowed the British to leave unharmed, and contented themselves by jeering at them as they abandoned the base.

Let's just remind ourselves that this was all supposed to be about weapons of mass destruction. When none were found, but the fighting went on, a new excuse had to be conjured up out of thin air to justify the continued occupation. That was the "let's stay and create democracy" wheeze. Well, the British have now handed Basra over to the tender mercies of various militias.

That is not to say that the retreat was a bad idea. However, it is important to point out to the last of the warmongers just how totally, utterly and completely everything that they argued in favour of has turned to shit.

How can anyone ever trust them again?
