China & Germany in diplomatic spat
Neil Clark reports that the Chinese are annoyed at the Germans, over Chancellor Angela Merkel's recent meeting with the Dalai Lama, Tibet's exiled leader. Neil goes on to say:
China illegally invaded Tibet in 1950 and has no right to harangue the leaders of other countries for meeting the country's exiled spiritual leader. This blog has always taken a consistent line against arrogant, imperialist attitudes and it does so regardless of whether the arrogant imperialists are American, British, Chinese or any other nationality.I couldn't agree more! Back in 2005 The Exile was calling for demonstrations against the visit of the Chinese president, and giving out the address of the Tibetan and Taiwanese offices in London. People need to remember that the same NuLabour regime that so cheerfully agreed to America's order to invade Iraq, also used the occasion of a state visit by a Chinese leader in 1999 to kow-tow to the Chinese by arresting demonstrators in London.
Hopefully the Germans will ignore the Chinese protest. They do seem to be made out of sterner stuff than their counterparts in London.
